Cabell Foundation Challenge – Match Accomplished

July 27, 2018 – Richmond, Virginia: The Richmond Symphony is thrilled to announce that over $500,000 in new and increased gifts was raised as a result of a challenge from The Cabell Foundation, allowing us to unlock $500,000 to provide additional resources to the Cabell Fund for Artistic Excellence. This Fund of the Symphony’s endowment supports our strategic plan for expanded growth and outreach throughout the region.

In May of 2017 The Cabell Foundation issued the Richmond Symphony a challenge to raise $500,000 through new and increased gifts before the end of June 2018. They offered to match those gifts dollar for-dollar.

“This is a pivotal time for the Symphony, as we conclude our 60th Anniversary Season and look ahead to where we want to be in 2020,” says David J.L. Fisk, Executive Director. “We are very grateful to the Robert G. Cabell III and Maude Morgan Cabell Foundation for its most generous $500,000 challenge grant toward the endowment of the Cabell Fund for Artistic Excellence of the Richmond Symphony Foundation. Grants like this help to ensure the Symphony’s continued success in providing outstanding concert experiences and education programs throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.” The challenge grant from The Cabell Foundation was leveraged to attract new and increased funding to the Symphony’s annual operating budget and special programming efforts planned for the 2017/18 60th anniversary season and beyond. This included using the match as a mechanism for fundraising toward the $1 million programmatic goal that is a part of the Symphony’s ongoing 20x20Campaign.

Through this challenge, Symphony donors furthered its ability to maintain artistic excellence, expand educational programming, create meaningful connections in the community and invest in its future ability to change lives through the power of music.
