Chi Lee

Viola

Violist Chi Lee was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. After studying in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, she received her bachelor’s degree from Manhattan School of Music and her master’s degree from Rice University. Her teachers have included Kin-Fung Leung, Dmitry Kustanovich, Karen Ritscher, Ivo-Jan van der Werff, and Lawrence Neuman. Chi has performed in the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Kent/Blossom Music Festival, Bard Music Festival, and the Asian Youth Orchestra. She has also appeared with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Northbrook Symphony Orchestra, Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, and Abilene Philharmonic. In 2018, she joined the Richmond Symphony as assistant principal violist.

Chi has been a member of the Florestan String Quartet, which has toured through Taiwan, giving a number of concerts and educational workshops for students. Chi has taught at the Bard College Conservatory Preparatory Division and the Amadeus Music School in New York. She was awarded the Best Teacher Award from the KRB NY International Competition in 2012 and won the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition in 2013.

Chi currently lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband, Paul, and their guinea pigs.
