Daniel Egan

Acting Associate Principal Trumpet

Daniel Egan is currently acting associate principal trumpet of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. Professionally, he has performed with numerous orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, National Symphony, Houston Symphony and Atlanta Symphony amongst others. He has served in a guest principal capacity with the Sarasota Orchestra, Houston Grand Opera, and Houston Ballet. Internationally, Mr. Egan served a three month acting role as principal trumpet of the Iceland Symphony at the beginning of their 2021 season. From 2018-2022 he was a member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland. Previous engagements have featured performances with such luminaries as Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Valery Gergiev, Manfred Honeck, and Fabio Luisi. Mr. Egan received his graduate degree in trumpet performance at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and Indiana University. His primary teachers are John Rommel, Barbara Butler, and Charles Geyer. A dedicated clinician and educator, Mr. Egan coached the Houston Youth Symphony for four years and has performed clinics and masterclasses throughout the United States He has taught in public and private schools for over ten years as a private instructor. He maintains an active studio in the greater Richmond area and in his spare time enjoys playing jazz, reading, playing golf, and being in nature.
