David Foster

Percussion

David Foster has been an active percussionist in the Richmond area for over 30 years, performing many different musical genres from classical to jazz to Broadway. He was a member of the Richmond Symphony from 1981-83 and now since 1986. Other musical appointments include Percussionist and Assistant Conductor for a Disney On Ice national tour and as percussionist with the Phoenix Symphony. David has also served on the percussion faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University.

David received his Bachelor of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University where his primary teachers included Donald Bick and Tom Jones. He also studied with former National Symphony Orchestra percussionist Kenneth Harbison and former National Symphony timpanist Fred Begun. While a student at VCU, David won first prize in the VMTA Collegiate Artist Competition on solo marimba.

In addition to his musical pursuits, David earned an MS in Accounting from VCU, a Master of Business Administration degree from Duke University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

David lives on a small horse farm with his wife, retired Richmond Symphony violinist Catherine Hubert.  When not working or taking care of their two horses, two cats, and two poodles and other farm chores, David enjoys reading and working the daily crossword puzzle.
