Catherine Broyles

Third Flute, Piccolo

Catherine Broyles joined the Richmond Symphony as Piccoloist in September 2019. She previously held the position of Co-Principal Flute of the United States Coast Guard Band for four years, where she also performed as soloist and in outreach concerts with her wind quintet.

Born and raised in Louisiana, Catherine began playing the piano at age five and the flute at age eleven. Her studies led her to Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where she received her high school diploma.

Ms. Broyles is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, earning her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, as well as a Performer’s Certificate. She completed one year of graduate studies at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music and received additional studies during summers at the Aspen Music Festival and School, where she was the Piccolo Fellow. She has performed with The Cleveland Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Her primary teachers include Bonita Boyd, Anne Harrow, Leone Buyse, and Nancy Stagnitta.
