Dominion Energy Center for the Performing Arts

November 30, 2018 – Richmond, Virginia: The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program (YOP) Winter Concert will take place on Sunday, December 9th at 4:00pm at the Dominion Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program ensembles performing on Dec. 9th are: String Sinfonietta, conducted by Christie-Jo Adams, Instructional Specialist for Fine Arts at Richmond Public Schools; Camerata Strings, conducted by Rebecca Jilcott, Orchestra Director at Matoaca Middle School in Chesterfield County; YOP Wind Ensemble, conducted by Christopher Moseley, Director of Bands & Orchestra at Varina High School in Henrico County; and Youth Concert Orchestra, conducted by Sandy Goldie, Assistant Professor of Music Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. This concert is free and open to the public.

The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program consists of five ensembles that provide beginning to advanced musical training: two string orchestras, a wind ensemble, and two full orchestras. YOP attracts students from all across Virginia; each student musician is a leader in their school music program, and many take weekly private lessons. Students have been rehearsing every Tuesday evening since September in preparation for this performance. Additionally, this concert will feature the first official concert performance by our newly added Wind Ensemble!

“Out of all of the orchestra experiences I’ve had, the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program is one of the most significant ones. Not only has my playing improved since I joined, but my confidence has improved as well. My two years in Sinfonietta, one year in Camerata and my one year so far in Youth Concert Orchestra have truly shaped me as a musician and person, and I’m so glad I’ve had this amazing experience in my life!” – YOP student

Admission to this concert is free and open to the public, with no ticket required.
