November 13, 2018 Richmond, Virginia-Richmond Raceway (Richmond) and AEG Presents announce “Weird Al” Yankovic will bring his 2019 Strings Attached tour, a high-energy, rock and comedy show featuring costumes, props, a video wall, and for the first time, the Richmond Symphony, to Virginia Credit Union LIVE! at Richmond Raceway on Thursday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets will go on sale to the public online at vaculive.com, via phone at 804-612-1900, or in-person at The National Box Office at 708 East Broad Street in Richmond, Va. on Friday, November 16 at 10 a.m. Virginia Credit Union and RICHMOND NATION members will receive an exclusive pre-sale for the “Weird Al” Yankovic concert on Thursday, November 15 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On his 2018 Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour, Yankovic wanted to reward his hardcore fans with an intimate, scaled-down show that showcased a rotating setlist of semi-obscure deep-cut non-parody album tracks, many of which he and his band had never performed live before.

“I wanted to follow up my most bare-bones tour ever with my most elaborate and extravagant tour ever,” said “Weird Al” Yankovic, the four-time GRAMMY® award winner. “We’re pulling out all the stops for this one.”

For his 2019 Strings Attached tour, he’s back to playing the hits and classics – but this time his band will be supported by background singers and the Richmond Symphony.

“The Richmond Symphony is thrilled to be performing with a quadruple threat in the industry — singer-songwriter, author, satirist, and film/record producer, “Weird Al” Yankovic in June 2019,” said Scott Dodson, Director of Advancement and Patron Communications. “What a perfect way to wrap up our 2018-19 season by showcasing the Symphony’s unique talents with a wonderfully unique artist at the Richmond Raceway.”

“Weird Al” Yankovic is the biggest-selling comedy recording artist in history, earning four Grammys and fifteen career nominations. He is best known for his hilariously irreverent parodies of hit songs, including “Eat It,” “Like A Surgeon,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” “Amish Paradise,” “White & Nerdy,” and “Tacky.”

Yankovic’s 14th studio album Mandatory Fun (2014) made headlines when it became the first comedy album in history to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart, and the first comedy album to even reach the top of that chart in over 50 years. The single “Word Crimes” debuted in the Billboard Top 40, making Al one of only four artists to have had Top 40 singles in each of the last four decades (the other three being Michael Jackson, Madonna and U2). He recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Commonwealth Mall at Virginia Credit Union LIVE! will feature concessions, displays, and merchandise on the day of the event, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. Parking for the event is located in Lot D, at the corner of Laburnum and Carolina Avenues, and can be accessed through Gate 4 on Laburnum Avenue. Parking is $10 for the public and free for Virginia Credit Union members with lots opening at 5:30 p.m.
