November 2, 2018 – Richmond, Virginia: As the frost nips your nose and whispers of snow enchant your dreams, settle in your seats and let the Richmond Symphony whisk you away to a snowy wonderland! Led by Associate Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin, the Richmond Symphony will accompany the animated film The Snowman, in this delightful holiday tradition that captivates the whole family. This Union Bank & Trust LolliPops concert will be held at the Dominion Energy Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, November 24th at 11:00am. Join us for a free pre-concert festival an hour beforehand in Rhythm Hall, featuring our instrument petting zoo, family-friendly activities, and much more! Enjoy interactive seasonal activities that will enhance the whole family’s Symphony experience.
Originally published in 1978, The Snowman, created and illustrated by Raymond Briggs, has become one of the world’s most popular children’s books. Having spotted the potential for creating a unique and ground-breaking animation, British film producer John Coates undertook translating the book into an animated film. It was first shown in the UK on December 26, 1982 and has since delighted audiences across the world, every holiday season! You will also hear a fantastic selection of holiday favorites including pieces from The Nutcracker and The Polar Express during the program.
Our Pre-concert Festival is presented by the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Sponsors will present fun activities for kids of all ages, including a photo booth, to capture concert-goers holiday cheer! The festival begins at 10:00am in Rhythm Hall, Dominion Energy Center. The family-friendly concert begins in the Carpenter Theatre at 11:00am.
Union Bank & Trust LolliPops concerts are Sensory-Friendly and designed to create a performance experience where all audiences are welcome, including those with autism or other sensory sensitivities. An ASL Interpreter will be available at the pre-concert festival and during all LolliPops performances.
