Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Fall Concert Featuring RSYO Alumna Hannah Hammel and Daniel Myssyk, Assistant Conductor of the Richmond Symphony

Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra – Sunday, November 11 at 7:00pm

Dominion Energy Center for the Performing Arts

October 22, 2018 – Richmond, Virginia: The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra (RSYO) will perform their Fall Concert on Sunday, November 11 at 7:00pm at the Dominion Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra will be conducted by Daniel Myssyk.

The performance will feature the return of Hannah Hammel, an alumna of the Youth Orchestra Program, former principal flutist with the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Principal Flute with the Knoxville Symphony orchestra. Hannah participated in the Youth Orchestra Program for six years, performing in both Youth Concert Orchestra and the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra. She recently won a position as full-time principal flutist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and flutist of the Knoxville Symphony Woodwind Quintet. She still stays in touch with a few of her friends from the Youth Orchestra Program and shared that they were some of her closest friends throughout high school. She is thrilled to be coming back to perform François Borne’s Carmen Fantasy for flute and orchestra with the ensemble she has such fond memories of.

As the newly appointed Assistant Conductor of the Richmond Symphony, Mr. Myssyk will lead several Symphony performances this year, serve as the conductor for the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra and provide artistic leadership for the Symphony’s overall Youth Orchestra Program.

“The repertoire includes Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, a 44-minute work that has provided a challenge to our student musicians, but a very satisfying one at that.” – Corinne Horvath, Youth Orchestra Manager.

The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra offers an advanced orchestra experience for young musicians. To gain entrance into the ensemble, students from across the Central Virginia region must participate in a competitive audition process each spring. Students participate in weekly rehearsals, coaching and masterclasses by Richmond Symphony Musicians, chamber music performances, mentoring and other musical activities. Students in the program hold themselves to a high level of discipline, preparation and musicianship.

Admission to this concert is free and open to the public, with no ticket required.
