January 11, 2018 – Richmond, Virginia

The enigmatic style of Billy Joel continues to influence American pop/rock music today. You will hear his iconic hits like never before when the Richmond Symphony teams up with superstar performer, Michael Cavanaugh, to perform the Music of Billy Joel on Saturday, January 27th at 8pm at the Carpenter Theatre at Dominion Energy Center. Experience Billy Joel’s unforgettable body of work with a concert helmed by Cavanaugh; the new voice of American rock and roll.

Hear Billy Joel favorites like Piano Man, Uptown Girl, New York State of Mind, She’s Got a Way, and all of his greatest hits!

Billy Joel moved to Los Angeles to start his career in 1972. During his first six months on the West Coast, Joel worked in the Executive Room piano bar on Wilshire Boulevard. His signature hit Piano Man is the story of his experience with the patrons that frequented the bar scene. You’ll experience Piano Man in a whole new way when the Richmond Symphony is joined by Michael Cavanaugh for our Pops Concert: Music of Billy Joel. Cavanaugh was discovered by the “Piano Man” himself, and often thought to be a second coming of Billy Joel. While Cavanaugh was playing at the New York, New York Hotel and Casino in 2001, Joel attended his performance and knew after a mere two songs that he was the perfect person to star in the original cast of the Broadway musical Movin’ Out. Cavanaugh performed over 1,200 shows with Movin’ Out in three years for which he received both Grammy and Tony award nominations.

Don’t miss your chance to hear the Music of Billy Joel on Saturday, January 27 at 8pm. The Carpenter Theatre at the Dominion Energy Center. Tickets start at $10 and can be purchased online at richmondsymphony.com or by calling 1.800.514.ETIX
