The Richmond Symphony's flagship educational program consists of four youth orchestras providing beginning to advanced musical training. As the premiere orchestral training program of central Virginia, students participate in weekly rehearsals, coachings and master classes by Richmond Symphony musicians, chamber music performances, mentoring and other musical and social activities.
Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra, Erin Freeman, Conductor
A full orchestra for advanced players. Musicians perform large symphonic works. RSYO musicians perform in an exclusive Side-by-Side concert with the Richmond Symphony.
Youth Concert Orchestra, Amy Birdsong, Conductor
A full orchestra for intermediate string, wind, brass, and percussion players. Students are introduced to standard symphonic repertoire.
Camerata Strings, Rebecca Jilcott,, Conductor
An intermediate string ensemble that develops ensemble playing and has a strong focus on technical skills.
String Sinfonietta, Christie-Jo Adams, Conductor
An introductory string training ensemble. Musicians learn the fundamentals of performing in an ensemble, sight reading and intonation.
Composer-in-residence, D.J. Sparr
Our new composer-in-residence will be writing new works as well as teaching classes on composition and musicianship.
