John Walter
John Walter, pianist, has been hailed for his dynamic interpretations and sensitive collaborations with orchestras, chamber ensembles, instrumentalists and vocalists. He has served as accompanist at the Juilliard School, Mannes and Manhattan School of Music, and the Aspen and Waterloo Summer Music Festivals. In Richmond, he is a regular performer with the Richmond Symphony, Richmond Ballet and other local performing arts groups. Mr. Walter served as Artistic Director of the Richmond Chamber Players from 1998–2012 and has been pianist for the group since 1994.
A graduate of Yale University, Mr. Walter received Master’s degrees in Piano and Accompanying from the University of Michigan. He later earned a Master of Math Education degree at Virginia Commonwealth University and is the chair of the math department at Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, a regional public high school for gifted children.
