After finishing undergraduate studies at the acclaimed University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, Ms. Anya Matanovic was selected by Baz Luhrmann to perform Mimi in the Broadway La Boheme (Los Angeles cast). Shortly after, Ms. Matanovic was accepted to the prestigious Seattle Opera young artist program. Ms. Matanovic was also a young artist at the acclaimed Aspen Festival (2003) and Santa Fe opera (2005, 2006). At Santa Fe Opera, Ms. Matanovic also received the Judith Raskin Memorial Award (2006).
An elegant and beautiful stage actress, accompanied with a rich round spinto voice, Ms. Matanovic can be heard in repertoire ranging from contemporary American to Verdi and Puccini. In 2007-2008, Ms. Matanovic sang the role of Frasquita (Carmen) with New York City opera and also covered three roles.
Ms. Matanovic’s future engagements include: Musetta (La Boheme) with New Israeli Opera; Nannetta (Falstaff) with Seattle Opera and Opera Cleveland; Gretel (Hänsel and Gretel) with Opera Cleveland and Kentucky Opera; Woglinde/Forest Bird (Der Ring des Nibelungen) (cover) with Seattle Opera, soprano solo (Carmina Burana) with Richmond Symphony and First Lady (Die Zauberflöte) with Seattle Opera 2011.
