Christie-Jo Carter Adams
Christie-Jo is currently in her fifteenth year of teaching strings. She taught for fourteen years in Richmond Public Schools and is currently in her first year of teaching for Henrico County Public Schools at Brookland Middle School. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Longwood University (formerly College) and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Averett University. Her experience in educating students has been on the elementary, middle, and high school levels and as adjunct faculty in the music department at Virginia Union University. In addition to her fifteen years in education she has had the privilege of working with many other talented students in the central Virginia region through guest conducting opportunities for Chesterfield All-County, Henrico All-County, Hanover All-County, Richmond All-City Central Regional Orchestra, Richmond Symphony Summer Music Camp and VCU Summer music Camp. She has served as an adjudicator for VBODA orchestral festivals and marching band competitions. As a violinist, she has been a member of the Petersburg Symphony and The Richmond Philharmonic. She continues to perform with her string quartet, “The Classic Quartet.” Her students have performed in concert with the Richmond Symphony and have consistently earned excellent and superior ratings in competitions and festivals. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Honorary Music Fraternity for Women, Music Educators National
Conference and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Ms. Adams has a variety of performing and recording experiences including classical and jazz. She continues to maintain her high standards for student achievement. She is an alumnus of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program having played in the Youth Concert Orchestra and the Richmond Symphony String Sinfonietta. She attributes her musical success to her wonderfully supportive family, the exceptional teachers in Richmond Public Schools and the experiences provided by her tenure in The Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Program.
